A Cabinet reshuffle imminent?<\/p>\n
Compared to (his predecessor) B.J. Habibie, President
\nAbdurrahman Wahid has everything. He has a strong legitimacy that
\noriginates from the people because he was chosen as the result of
\na fair general election. He also is closely associated with a
\npolitical party that has strong backing among the population. In
\naddition he has won the support of foreign governments.<\/p>\n
It is also true, however, that he owes a great deal to several
\nparties -- those whose support helped him win the presidency and
\nform his present Cabinet. Even so, there is no need for him to
\nseek the blessings of those parties -- including Mega (Megawati),
\nAmien (Rais), Akbar (Tandjung) and Wiranto -- should he want to
\nreshuffle his Cabinet.<\/p>\n
This country is already teetering on the tip of a bull's horn.
\nThis time, Abdurrahman will have to work openly. If he wants to
\nreshuffle the Cabinet let him do so swiftly. If not, stop the
\nspeculation and the rumors and don't allow rumors to form the
\npublic's opinion.<\/p>\n
