Increasing competition resulting from economic globalization
\nhas undoubtedly brought formidable challenges to young people
\nthese days. Obtaining a broad-based and internationally-oriented
\neducation has become a necessity in the face of such a
\nchallenging future.<\/p>\n
BiNus School provides a multicultural environment that
\nprovides opportunities for students aged 3 to 18 to receive
\ninternationally recognized education through its academic,
\nextracurricular and religious programs. Adopting the Western
\nAustralian Senior Curriculum and the Indonesian Curriculum in the
\nHigh and Middle schools, and offering the International
\nBaccalaureate in the Pre- and Elementary Schools, the School
\nfocuses on the development of each child's intellectual,
\nphysical, emotional, social and spiritual dimensions.<\/p>\n
\"Educational research and especially Gardner's `Multiple
\nIntelligences' theory has shown conclusively that there are vast
\ndifferences in the learning style of children. Every student is a
\nunique individual because they have different ways in which they
\nsee the world as well as preferences in learning styles. A
\nteacher can stand in front of the classroom, read from a textbook
\nor show numbers on the board in Mathematics and probably reach
\nonly a very small portion of the class. That's why we always
\nencourage our teachers to vary their teaching styles in a bid to
\ncater for the varied intelligences and learning styles of
\nstudents,\" said Principal of BiNus School, Gregory C. Mowday.<\/p>\n
Students who have completed their secondary education at BiNus
\nSchool will receive dual secondary education graduation. Besides
\nreceiving the Indonesian National Certificate, they will also
\nobtain the Western Australian Certificate of Education, which can
\nbe used to access higher education institutions overseas.<\/p>\n
\"Up to 80 percent of our graduates pursue international higher
\neducation in Australia, the US, Canada, Europe and Southeast
\nAsia. Internationally accredited and recognized certification
\nprovides them with the opportunity to meet the entrance standards
\nof universities worldwide. This provides our graduates with
\ndirect entry to mainstream under-graduate courses abroad, on
\ncondition they meet the standards, without the need to complete a
\nbridging course,\" said Mr. Mowday.<\/p>\n
Growing demand in the market for international-standard
\neducation has encouraged BiNus School, which was established in
\n1998 as a National-Plus Senior High School, to open to receive
\nstudents for Pre-school, Elementary and Middle School levels in
\nJuly of this year. The International Baccalaureate (IB) \"Primary
\nYears Program\" will be the curriculum for the Pre-school and
\nElementary School, and the Middle School will be offered the
\n\"Middle Years Program\" next year, followed by the Diploma Program
\nin the very near future. The IB has international recognition as
\na high-quality educational program.<\/p>\n
The newly developed campus in Simprug, South Jakarta, is a
\npurpose-built education facility that consists of three towers
\nserving pre-primary, primary and secondary education. Each
\nclassroom is fully air-conditioned and is equipped to
\ninternational standards. The School offers teaching, learning,
\ncultural and sporting facilities, including discipline-specific
\nscience laboratories, computer laboratories, a fully resourced
\nlibrary, indoor basketball and badminton centers, a music
\ninstruction facility and a visual and performing arts center.<\/p>\n
The School also provides support services for students such as
\ncounseling and guidance, a health clinic and access to Internet
\nand the audio-visual network from all areas in the buildings.<\/p>\n
In addition, BiNus School provides diverse extra-curricula
\nactivities that encourage students to participate and to explore
\ntheir potential and preferences. The activities range from art,
\nfilm production, photography, handicrafts, newsletter publishing,
\nmodern dance, Mandarin, music, electronics, web design,
\nintroduction to business, badminton, basketball, volleyball and
\ntable tennis, to outdoor education. The students can also enter
\ninterschool and inter-regional competitions, including those for
\nthe Sciences and Mathematics, Information Technology and
\ndebating.<\/p>\n
To build a close partnership with the parents, the School
\nhas established a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). Through the
\nPTA, the parents are directly involved in their child's
\neducational program and development.<\/p>\n
\"The involvement of Parents is essential to our School. A
\nstrong partnership and good communication between school and home
\nprovides the opportunity for all stakeholders to contribute in
\nachieving high quality education. The PTA acts as our advisory
\ngroup on all aspects of the School from educational methods to
\nissues that concern them, and with their inputs, we are more able
