        "content": "<p>90 buildings damaged in quake<\/p>\n<p>GORONTALO, North Sulawesi: At least 90 houses, mosques and<br>\noffice buildings in Paguyaman and Kwandang subdistricts,<br>\nGorontalo regency, were damaged by an earthquake late Tuesday<br>\nwhich measured 6.8 on the Richter scale.<\/p>\n<p>No casualties were reported in the tremor, which is believed<br>\nto be the second largest quake to hit North Sulawesi in the last<br>\nseven years, Aswin Miolo, an official from the local disaster<br>\nmanagement office, said.<\/p>\n<p>Aswin was quoted by Antara as saying yesterday that in the<br>\nmunicipality of Gorontalo there were no reports of serious damage<br>\nand the electrical blackout lasted a few hours.<\/p>\n<p>A local meteorology official, Hendar Gunawan, said the<br>\nepicenter of the quake was 1.27 degrees north and 122.56 degree<br>\neast, or 78 kilometers northwest of Gorontalo, at a depth of<br>\nabout 40 km.<\/p>\n<p>\"After the first quake, there were some small aftershocks,\"<br>\nGunawan said. \"It affected surrounding areas in Kotamobagu,<br>\nBolaang Mongondow, Minahasa regency and Manado.\"<\/p>\n<p>The largest quake to hit the region was on June 20, 1991,<br>\nwhich measured 6.9 on the Richter scale and destroyed 1,500<br>\nbuildings in Gorontalo.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1990, there have been nine quakes with the epicenters<br>\nlocated more or less in the same place.<\/p>\n<p>Those earthquakes occurred in April 1990 (5.8 on the Richter<br>\nscale), May 1990 (4.7), June 1991 (6.9), August 1991 (4.6), March<br>\n1993 (5.9), April 1993 (5.1), May 1993 (5.4), January 1996 (5.6),<br>\nand November 1997 (6.8), Antara reported.
