        "content": "<p>JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com \u2014 The Indonesian Embassy in Tehran continues to\nsupport eight Indonesian citizens working as crew members on the MSC\nFrancesca, detained by Iranian authorities since 22 April 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesian Ambassador to Iran and Turkmenistan Roy Soemirat stated\nthat the Panama-flagged vessel was detained alongside the\nLiberia-flagged Epaminondas. The detention is reportedly part of Iran\u2019s\nresponse to the United States seizing an Iranian ship on 19 April\n2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Informally, the Tehran embassy obtained initial information from\nseveral sources about the possible presence of eight Indonesian citizens\nworking as crew on the MSC Francesca,\u2019 Roy said during a phone interview\non Friday, 29 May 2026.<\/p>\n<p>During meetings, the embassy emphasised the importance of consular\naccess for the Indonesian crew members.<\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s Foreign Ministry confirmed the presence of the eight\nIndonesians aboard the MSC Francesca. The Iranian government has also\nfacilitated basic needs and communication with families for the crew, in\ncoordination with the ship\u2019s company.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Iranian government stated they are conducting a judicial review\nconcerning the vessel and its crew,\u2019 Roy added.<\/p>\n<p>Iranian security authorities continue to allow limited communication\nfor the Indonesians, according to diplomatic exchanges.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Tehran embassy is coordinating with the Foreign Ministry in\nJakarta as the focal point for overseas Indonesian citizen protection\nissues,\u2019 Roy continued.<\/p>\n<p>The Indonesian Foreign Ministry is also coordinating with relevant\ngovernment agencies, including the recruitment agency for the Indonesian\ncrew members in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The embassy is currently further coordinating with Iranian\nauthorities on next steps for the crew members aboard the MSC\nFrancesca.<\/p>\n<p>Roy noted that certain matters outside government control require\nseparate discussions between the crew, the shipowner, and their\nrecruitment agency in Indonesia.<\/p>",
