A total of 8.2 million people are predicted to enter Yogyakarta\nProvince during the Eid homecoming rush this year. These millions are\nexpected to arrive gradually throughout the homecoming period using\nvarious modes of transport.<\/p>\n
This was stated by Yogyakarta Regional Police Chief Inspector General\nAnggoro Sukartono following a coordination meeting of regional leaders\n(Forkopimda) in Yogyakarta ahead of Eid 1447 H at the Kepatihan complex\nin Yogyakarta city on Tuesday (10 March 2026).<\/p>\n
\u201cBased on data from the Ministry of Transportation, Yogyakarta\nProvince is the destination for public mobility during the peak of the\nhomecoming rush, which is predicted to reach 8.2 million people,\u201d\nexplained Anggoro at the Kepatihan complex. \u201cThis 8.2 million figure is\nbased on a Ministry of Transportation survey and does not arrive all at\nonce, but rather according to calculations of the number of private\nvehicle users and train passengers at Tugu and Lempuyangan\nstations.\u201d<\/p>\n
Anggoro continued that the majority of homebound travellers continue\nto originate from the Greater Jakarta area. To this end, predictions of\nprivate vehicles heading to Yogyakarta are monitored from the\nKalikangkung toll gate in Semarang, Central Java.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe predict that on H-5 and H-3 before Eid, traffic inflow will be\ndense,\u201d said Anggoro. \u201cHoliday security for Eid will be prioritised in\nOperation Ketupat Progo 2026, which will be conducted simultaneously\nfrom 13 to 25 March.\u201d<\/p>\n
The large number of homebound travellers predicted to enter\nYogyakarta will inevitably create congestion points at stations,\nairports, and various tourist destinations.<\/p>\n
To address this, aside from establishing 25 security posts\ndistributed across Yogyakarta, police and related stakeholders are\nundertaking several efforts to ease traffic congestion and ensure\ntraveller safety. \u201cEveryone who arrives must be informed about\nconditions in Yogyakarta. Communication will be conducted through\nelectronic and social media,\u201d said Anggoro.<\/p>\n
The police are also coordinating with navigation application\nproviders to prevent routing along routes with minimal information\ncoverage. \u201cWe will communicate to restrict routes with inaccurate\ninformation, as our personnel at checkpoints must ensure that minor\nroutes are only used when monitored by officers,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are coordinating with Waze and Google to adjust routes that\nshould not be used,\u201d continued Anggoro.<\/p>\n
Traffic condition updates will be dynamic daily so the public can\nreceive current information. This will encourage the public to remain\ndisciplined in using designated routes. \u201cAs conditions change daily, if\nany routes pose potential risks, we prevent their use through Google\nMaps,\u201d clarified Anggoro.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe encourage the public to stick to routes and lanes with assigned\npersonnel.
