        "content": "<p>77,000 families resettled<\/p>\n<p>BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: Over the past decade, the province<br>\nhas resettled over 77,000 farmers who had occupied protected<br>\nforests, a local senior official said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Chief of the provincial office of transmigration Jogjapratono<br>\nsaid the farmers were moved from the Mt. Balak, Wonosobo, Padang<br>\nCermin and Pulo Panggung forests.<\/p>\n<p>He said the provincial government had a problem because it did<br>\nnot have enough land to resettle all the forest squatters.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, more than 86,500 squatter families have yet to be<br>\nresettled while the remaining land is only enough to accommodate<br>\n12,000 families.<\/p>\n<p>\"Much of the land is swampy and a lot has yet to be done to<br>\nmake it arable,\" he said, reported Antara.<\/p>\n<p>The government blames forest squatters for deforestation<br>\nbecause of their well-known slash-and-burn farming techniques.<br>\n(pan)<\/p>",
