75 netted in nightspots raid<\/p>\n
TANGERANG (JP): Sixty-four waitresses and 11 waiters were
\narrested at three nightspots in a joint raid by Tangerang police
\nprecinct and Serpong police subprecinct Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n
They were accused of violating article 503 of the criminal
\ncode on public order. Each of them was fined Rp 15,500 (US$5.80)
\nat Tangerang District Court yesterday.<\/p>\n
\"I don't know why we were arrested because we were working as
\nreceptionists and waitresses, not as prostitutes,\" Nurti, 28,
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Three nightspots in Serpong were raided: Pondok Lembayung,
\nGaya Baru and Bheker.<\/p>\n
Pondok Lembayung's owner, Imron, said he was unhappy about the
\ncharges because he had permits for his business.<\/p>\n
\"It's useless if I get permits but my business isn't
\nprotected. Those waitresses were working in accordance with
\nregulations, not creating disorder as accused,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Tangerang police precinct chief Lt. Col. Iman Haryatna said
\nthe raids were carried out because the police had received
\nreports from the public. He did divulge the content of the
\nreports.<\/p>\n
\"Besides, the owners couldn't show their permits. If they had
\nhad permits, we wouldn't have arrested their staff,\" he said.
