PT Kereta Commum Indonesia (KCI) has conducted a recall of seven KRL
iE305/CLI-225 trainsets produced by PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA). The
move follows the discovery of a problem with a specific component
related to train safety.

KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin explained that the problematic
component is located in the train’s underframe. Inspections revealed the
presence of fractures in the component.

“The issue identified recently falls under the ‘no-go item’ category.
These are components in the underframe where fractures were found,”
Bobby stated during a hearing with Commission VI of the Indonesian House
of Representatives (DPR RI) on Wednesday (23/09/26).

In classifying train components, KAI categorises items into three
groups: ‘no-go items’ related to safety, ‘major items’ that can disrupt
operations, and ‘minor items’ related to passenger comfort.

As the issue was classified as a ‘no-go item’, KAI traced the source
of the component’s production. Inspections showed that the components
were produced domestically and originated from the same production
batch.

“This is a local, domestic production. At the time, the focus was
likely on TKDN (Domestic Component Level), or local content.
Consequently, we investigated where else this component was produced
within the same batch, and it was found in seven trainset units,” said
Bobby.

KAI subsequently decided to recall all seven trainsets containing
components from that batch. Inspections are being carried out to ensure
no remaining safety issues exist before the trains return to service.
During this process, KAI is conducting 100% Non-Destructive Testing
(NDT). The inspection is performed after the coating on the components
is removed.

The components are then subjected to maximum load testing to ensure
there is no potential for material fatigue that could compromise safety
or operations. Once the inspection is complete, components are repaired
or replaced as necessary, followed by re-coating before being
reinstalled.

Of the seven recalled trainsets, two have been declared free of
‘no-go’ category issues and have resumed operations. The remaining five
trainsets will be processed gradually until 9 October 2026.
",
