Nvidia has announced a commitment to developing AI-based 6G networks in partnership with major telecommunications companies including Cisco, Deutsche Telekom, Nokia, and T-Mobile, alongside Indonesian provider Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison. The technology uses AI-RAN (Artificial Intelligence Radio Access Networking) architecture to create self-optimising networks, with initial trials expected in 2028 and commercial deployment around 2030. 6G is projected to serve as the backbone infrastructure for the artificial intelligence era, enabling real-time interaction between autonomous machines, sensors, vehicles and robots.

Jakarta — Nvidia has officially announced its commitment to building
artificial intelligence-based 6G networks, which are expected to
fundamentally transform the way the internet currently operates.

The announcement was made ahead of the MWC Barcelona event, a global
telecommunications forum. Nvidia has partnered with several industry
giants including Cisco Systems Inc., Deutsche Telekom AG, Nokia
Corp. and T-Mobile US Inc. to develop an open and secure 6G
platform.

Whilst 5G served as the foundation for metaverse ambitions, 6G is
projected to become the backbone of the artificial intelligence era.
This technology will not only deliver faster speeds, but also enable
millions of autonomous machines, sensors, vehicles and robots to
interact directly with the real world in real-time.

“AI is redefining computing and driving the construction of the
largest infrastructure project in human history, and telecommunications
is next,” said Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.

“Together with a global coalition of industry leaders, Nvidia is
building AI-RAN to transform the world’s telecommunications networks
into AI infrastructure everywhere,” he added.

The technology being advanced is AI-RAN (Artificial Intelligence
Radio Access Networking), a software-driven AI-based radio network
architecture that can continuously evolve. With this approach, networks
are no longer static but capable of automatically optimising
themselves.

Gradually, the evolution from 5G Advanced will serve as a bridge
towards 6G. Initial trials are expected to begin in 2028, with
commercial deployment anticipated around 2030.

Beyond the global level, Nvidia has also partnered with Indonesian
telecommunications provider Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison alongside SoftBank
to move AI-RAN from the laboratory into the commercialisation phase.

T-Mobile CEO Srini Gopalan emphasised the central role of 6G in the
future. “As 6G becomes the backbone of the artificial intelligence era,
telecommunications will function as the nervous system of the digital
economy, enabling large-scale autonomous systems and smart industry
whilst creating new value for customers and businesses,” said
Gopalan.
",
