68 illegal KWK's seized in a dragnet<\/p>\n
West Jakarta police have impounded at 68 unauthorized minibus
\ntransports in a two day dragnet this week.<\/p>\n
The vehicles, which were caught in the mayoralty police
\noperation last Wednesday and Thursday, are currently being held
\nat the city police's impound yard on Jl. Pemuda, East Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The chairman of the authorized suburban transport
\ncooperatives, Koperasi Wahana Kalpika (KWK), H. La Ode Djeni
\nHasmar, applauded the police for their action, saying that these
\nillegal transports were serving the KWK routes.<\/p>\n
\"We hope the police will extend their operation to all five
\nmayoralties in the city,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The KWK secretary, Eddy G. Tairas, estimates over 1,000
\nillegal transports are operating in Jakarta.<\/p>\n
As reported by Terbit yesterday, many have called on KWK to
\nincrease their fleet to meet the people's rising demands for
\nbetter transportation services.<\/p>\n
KWK itself has applied for permission from the municipal
\nadministration to increase its fleet, but so far there has been
