60 houses razed in police complex<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Fire razed at least 60 houses in the police housing
\ncomplex in Palmerah subdistrict, West Jakarta, on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The fire made 260 police officers and their families homeless.<\/p>\n
Most of the families were out visiting Taman Safari Indonesia
\nanimal park in Puncak, Bogor.<\/p>\n
"The fire started from the house of Sayogi ... The house was
\nempty because the family went to their town in East Java for
\nholiday," a witness, Hari, told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
The residents suspect a short circuit caused the fire, because
\nan air conditioner had been left on.<\/p>\n
One firefighter required medical treatment at a nearby public
\nhealth center after he was hit by falling timbers while trying to
\ndouse the fire.<\/p>\n
At least 18 fire trucks and support vehicles were deployed to
\nextinguish the fire that started at about 11 a.m.<\/p>\n
"It was the work of firefighters from West Jakarta, South
\nJakarta and Central Jakarta fire departments," West Jakarta fire
\nplatoon commander Mudjiman told the Post after putting the fire
\nout at about 2 p.m.<\/p>\n
Several mosques in the surrounding areas were preparing to
