Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The war between Iran and the United States\n(US) and Israel continues unabated with no signs of resolution.<\/p>\n
Here are the latest developments on Saturday (21\/3\/2026), compiled by\nCNBC Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, stated that the enemy is\ncurrently being defeated by Iranian military forces.<\/p>\n
He made this revelation during a statement on Iranian television on\nFriday (20\/3\/2026).<\/p>\n
\u201cCurrently, due to the unity that has been forged among our fellow\ncountrymen, regardless of differences in religious origins,\nintellectual, cultural, and political backgrounds, the enemy has been\ndefeated,\u201d Khamenei said in his statement, quoted from Al Jazeera on\nSaturday (21\/3\/2026).<\/p>\n
The new Supreme Leader of Iran said that although the US and Israel\nbelieved the Iranian people would overthrow the government, he described\nit as a major miscalculation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe war was launched under the delusion that if the regime\u2019s\nleadership and certain influential military figures achieve martyrdom,\nit would instil fear and despair in our beloved people, and through this\nmeans, the dream of dominating Iran and then dividing it would be\nrealised,\u201d Khamenei explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn the contrary, cracks have emerged on the enemy\u2019s side,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n
US President Donald Trump claimed to have won the war against\nIran.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think we\u2019ve already won,\u201d Trump said, quoted from Al Jazeera on\nSaturday (21\/3\/2026).<\/p>\n
Trump stated that US military operations in Iran would continue. He\nsaid the US would not pursue a ceasefire because its forces had won\nagainst Iran.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t want to do a ceasefire. You know, you don\u2019t do a ceasefire\nwhen you\u2019ve really destroyed the other side,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Iran\u2019s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, said Tehran needs more than\njust a ceasefire to end the war with the US and Israel.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur message is that this war is not our war. It is a war imposed on\nus. We were negotiating with the United States when they decided to\nattack us. This is blatant aggression; illegal, unjustified, and\nunprovoked aggression,\u201d Araghchi said, quoted from Al Jazeera.<\/p>\n
He added that Iran would continue to fight to win the war. His side\nwould also continue to defend itself for the sake of the Iranian people\nwho are now suffering due to US-Israeli attacks.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we are doing is purely self-defence. We will continue to defend\nourselves, however necessary and for as long as necessary,\u201d he\ncontinued.<\/p>\n
Araghchi also refused to accept a unilateral ceasefire from the US,\ndrawing from last year\u2019s experience where the ceasefire was merely a\ntrap.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur position, and I must reiterate, is that we do not accept a\nceasefire because we do not want last year\u2019s scenario to repeat. The war\nmust be ended completely and permanently, and there must be guarantees\nthat this situation will not recur,\u201d Araghchi emphasised.<\/p>\n
Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Iranian leaders on the\nNowruz celebrations and stated that Moscow remains a loyal friend and\nreliable partner for Tehran, which serves as a form of Russia\u2019s support\nfor Iran.<\/p>\n
However, the extent of Moscow\u2019s support for Iran remains a matter of\ndebate. Some Iranian sources say they have only received minimal real\nassistance from Moscow during Iran\u2019s biggest crisis since the US-backed\nShah was overthrown in the 1979 revolution.<\/p>\n
Putin sent Nowruz New Year greetings to Supreme Leader Mojtaba\nKhamenei and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.<\/p>\n
\u201cVladimir Putin hopes that the Iranian people can overcome this\nsevere ordeal with dignity and emphasises that in these difficult times,\nMoscow remains a loyal friend and trusted partner of Tehran,\u201d the\nKremlin said, quoted from Reuters on Saturday (21\/3\/2026).<\/p>\n
Russia stated that the US and Israeli attacks on Iran have plunged\nthe entire Middle East into the abyss of destruction and triggered a\nmajor global energy crisis. Putin also condemned the killing of Iran\u2019s\nprevious Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as a \u201ccynical\u201d\nassassination.<\/p>\n
Israel and Iran continue to attack each other up to Saturday, as the\nUS sends thousands of additional marines to the Middle East and\nPresident Donald Trump accuses NATO allies of cowardice for their\nreluctance to help open the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
Israel also attacked Beirut, stating that they targeted Hezbollah\namid increased airstrikes targeting the Iranian-backed Lebanese\nmilitia.<\/p>\n
