52 export firms deny special status facility<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Fifty-two export-related companies or 14 percent
\nof the 450 companies applying for a special status facility from
\nthe government had failed to obtain approval from the related
\nagencies, according to the industry and trade ministry.<\/p>\n
As of last October, the Directorate General of Tax had
\nrejected 16 companies; the central bank, Bank Indonesia, had
\nrejected 23 firms; and the Agency for the Facilitation of Export
\nActivities (Bapeksta) had rejected 13, the ministry said
\nyesterday.<\/p>\n
The companies awarded the facility -- exporter with special
\nstatus (PET) -- receive tax incentives from the government. The
\napplication for the facility must be approved by several
\ngovernmental agencies.<\/p>\n
Antara reported that the tax directorate general rejected the
\nrequests of 14 companies in the textile industry, one in the
\nleather industry and another one in the education and sports
\nindustry.<\/p>\n
The news agency said the reasons for rejecting the
\napplications were not disclosed.<\/p>\n
The central bank refused 22 textile industry firms and one in
\nthe leather industry.<\/p>\n
Bapeksta rejected the applications of seven textile companies,
\nfive leather companies, one electronic company.<\/p>\n
As of October, nine textile companies and two leather
\ncompanies were still waiting for approvals from the central bank
\nand Customs and Excise.<\/p>\n
The ministry said one company was still waiting for approval
\nfrom the tax directorate general, BI and Bapeksta.<\/p>\n
Five companies were awaiting approvals as they still lacked
\nthe required data, it said.<\/p>\n
To obtain a PET facility a firm must have a clear and accurate
\noffice or factory address and have paid their taxes.<\/p>\n
The companies must not have tax problems and must have filed
\ntheir tax returns in at least two consecutive years. They must
\nnot have had problems with customs, or with loans.<\/p>\n
The ministry said the 387 companies which had been granted the
\nstatus included 279 textile companies, 75 leather producers, and
\n12 electronic companies. (das)<\/p>",
