5,000 fail to enroll at high schools<\/p>\n
PURWAKARTA, West Java: About 5,000 elementary school graduates
\nin Purwakarta, West Java, failed to pursue higher education in
\n2002 due to the limited capacity of junior high schools to
\naccommodate students, Purwakarta legislature Commission E
\nchairman Juhara said Thursday.<\/p>\n
He said a large number of graduates coming from low-income
\nfamilies had also been forced to work to help their parents earn
\na living.<\/p>\n
\"The limited capacity at all junior high schools and the poor
\nstate of the economy had played major parts in preventing
\nelementary student graduates from continuing their education,\" he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
According to the Purwakarta education office, only 9,000 of
\n14,000 elementary school graduates in 2002 went to junior high
\nschools.<\/p>\n
The education office is constructing two high school buildings

Attorney to probe ADB consultants<\/p>\n
KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: At least six consultants of
\nschool projects funded by the Manila-based Asian Development Bank
\n(ADB) are currently under investigation by local prosecutors for
\nalleged corruption.<\/p>\n
Assistant district attorney Antonius Sudiarto said on Thursday
\nthat the investigation of the consultants would help solve
\nalleged corruption by La Wilis, now detained in a Kendari jail.<\/p>\n
Wilis is accused of misusing Rp 17 billion (US$1.9 million) of
\nADB funds in 2001, causing losses to the state of Rp 300 million.<\/p>\n
The six consultants are Mujiman, Nurul Yusuf, Nugraha, Agung
\nHariyanto, Saeful and Maskur.<\/p>\n
The consultants had told investigators that their contracts
\nended in December 2001, when the projects were only 70 percent
\ncompleted.<\/p>\n
\"Even if their contracts have expired, they must finish
\nconstructing the school buildings,\" Antinius said.<\/p>\n
It was not immediately clear about the number of school
\nbuildings or value of school projects the consultants were

MEDAN, North Sumatra: The 32nd annual North Sumatra Fair, more
\ncommonly known as the Sumut Fair, will be relocated to the former
\nentertainment resort of Tapian Daya, Medan.<\/p>\n
The fair, which will start on May 9, 2003, is designed to
\npromote local and international products.<\/p>\n
Preparations at the new site are expected to be completed by
\nthe end of April.<\/p>\n
Rizal Nurdin, Governor of North Sumatra, had urged the Sumut
\nFair Foundation to prepare this year's fair professionally.<\/p>\n
He hoped that during the fair all regencies and municipalities
\nwould be able to market their regional products.<\/p>\n
The new site covers an area of about five square hectares.

Lampung District Court head I Putu Kusa said on Thursday that
\nhis office would follow any corruption allegations reported by
\nthe Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP).<\/p>\n
\"There is no reason for the court to refuse investigating the

In its report, BPKP discovered several irregularities

\nRahman, head of BPS for Riau.<\/p>\n
He said it had been duplicating the remaining forms itself in

\ncompete for the positions. They are Noviarman Kailani and Sondi
\nSananduro, Rachman Djalili and Yuri Gagarin, and Sujiadi and
\nAhmad Azidin.<\/p>\n
Adil said all candidates had passed a strenuous process
\nbefore being nominated.<\/p>\n
