50 courting couples nabbed<\/p>\n
Police have nabbed 50 courting couples from several hotels in
\nBogor, 70 kilometers southeast of here, during a special
\noperation involving dozens of policemen and officials from the
\ntown's tourism board.<\/p>\n
The operation is part of Bogor's preparation in hosting the
\nAsia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference scheduled for
\nNovember.<\/p>\n
\"We are striving 'clean up' and secure the city before the
\ninternational conference,\" Bogor Police Chief Lt. Col. Nono
\nSupriono said to Pos Kota.<\/p>\n
He said the operation, code-named Operasi APEC 94, was part of
\nthe city's campaign to promote a better image of Bogor to
\nforeigners, especially the conference's participants. American
\nPresident Bill Clinton will be among the delegates attending the
\nconference.<\/p>\n
Nono said the couples were not detained but were given stern
\nwarning not to do it again in the future.<\/p>\n
He said the operators of the hotels were also strongly
\nreprimanded.<\/p>\n
\"I believe some of the hotels provide prostitutes for their
\nguests,\" Nono said, adding that if the operators continued doing
\nsuch business he would not hesitate to close down their hotels.<\/p>\n
Nono said all brothels in Bogor might be closed down and the
\nprostitutes and their pimps could be detained.<\/p>\n
He said the operation will continue even after the APEC
