This time, Dittipideksus Bareskrim Polri thwarted the\nsmuggling of onions and chillies.<\/p>\n<p>The case came to light when the Satgas Penegakan Hukum (Gakkum)\nPenyelundupan Tipideksus Bareskrim Polri conducted a search. Here is a\nsummary of the facts.<\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li>Smuggling in Pontianak<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The search was carried out by the Gakkum Penyelundupan Tipideksus\nBareskrim Polri team at two locations in Pontianak City, West\nKalimantan.<\/p>\n<p>The first raid took place at Jalan Budi Karya, Pontianak Selatan\nDistrict, Pontianak City. Police lines were set up around racks storing\nvarious types of onions in the warehouse.<\/p>\n<p>The second raid was conducted at Jalan Budi Karya, Pontianak Square\nComplex, Benuamelayu Ward, Pontianak Selatan District, Pontianak City.\nAt the second location, sacks containing Bombay onions, garlic, and\nshallots were seen being seized by the Gakkum Penyelundupan Tipideksus\nBareskrim Polri team.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\" type=\"1\">\n<li>Over 23 Tonnes Seized<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The Gakkum Penyelundupan Tipideksus Bareskrim Polri team seized 23.1\ntonnes of onions and dried chillies suspected to have entered\nillegally.<\/p>\n<p>Dirtipideksus Bareskrim Polri Brigjen Ade Safri Simanjuntak detailed\nthat the first raided location was at Jalan Budi Karya Number 5,\nPontianak Selatan. There, officers found 10.35 tonnes of onions\nconsisting of shallots, garlic, and yellow Bombay onions.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, at the second location in the Pontianak Square complex,\nofficers seized 12.79 tonnes of food commodities. In addition to various\ntypes of onions, police found thousands of kilograms of dried\nchillies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe total illegally imported food commodities found amounted to\n23,146 kilograms or 23.146 tonnes,\u201d said Ade Safri.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\" type=\"1\">\n<li>Originating from China to the Netherlands<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Bareskrim Polri uncovered a case of alleged smuggling of illegally\nimported onions and dried chillies in Pontianak City, West Kalimantan.\nThe onions and chillies originated from China, Thailand, to the\nNetherlands.<\/p>\n<p>Ade Safri stated that dozens of tonnes of these commodities are\nsuspected to have entered Indonesia via land routes from neighbouring\ncountries. Currently, police have set up lines at both warehouse\nlocations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe smuggling or illegal import of these food commodities is\nsuspected to have entered Indonesian territory via Malaysia,\u201d he\nrevealed.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the breakdown of the smuggled onions and chillies and their\ncountries of origin:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><p>Shallots from Thailand: 118 sacks @ 18 kg, total: 2,124 kg (2.1\ntonnes),<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Garlic from China: 457 sacks @ 20 kg, total: 9,140 kg (9.1\ntonnes).<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Yellow Bombay onions from the Netherlands: 399 sacks @ 20 kg,\ntotal: 7,980 kg (7.9 tonnes).<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Red Berry Bombay onions from India: 188 sacks @ 9 kg, total:\n1,692 kg (1.6 tonnes).<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Dried chillies from China: 221 sacks @ 10 kg, total: 2,210 kg\n(2.2 tonnes).<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"4\" type=\"1\">\n<li>Suppliers Being Hunted<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The task force is now hunting down the major suppliers behind the\nnetwork. Based on clarifications from the warehouse owners, the illegal\ngoods were obtained by the owners from other parties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe shop or goods owners purchased the illegally imported food\ncommodities from higher-level layers who are currently being sought,\u201d\nsaid Ade Safri.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that his side is also monitoring other points suspected to\nbe dens for storing illegal commodities in West Kalimantan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe team is identifying other warehouses or storage places for\nillegally imported food commodities. Currently, there are three\nlocations under team surveillance,\u201d Ade Safri emphasised.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\" type=\"1\">\n<li>Follow-up to President\u2019s Directive<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The uncovering of this smuggling case is a follow-up to President\nPrabowo Subianto\u2019s directive on preventing smuggling because it harms\nthe state finances. The directive was given by President Prabowo to TNI\nCommander General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo\nSigit Prabowo, and Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur work is still heavy, the journey is still long, leaks still\noccur, smuggling still happens. TNI Commander-Police Chief-Finance\nMinister, you have institutions tasked with stopping smuggling; use all\nthe authority you have to enforce that,\u201d Prabowo said in his speech at\nthe Attorney General\u2019s Office on Friday (10\/4).<\/p>\n<p>He also urged other institutions at all levels to collaborate,\nespecially in enforcing the law.<\/p>",
