The Riau Regional Police have handled 45 forest and land fire cases\nas of Monday (7\/9\/2026), with 49 people named as suspects. The burnt\narea linked to these cases has reached 2,958.04 hectares.<\/p>\n
Director of Special Crimes Investigation at Riau Regional Police,\nCommissioner Ade Kuncoro Ridwan, said the legal process continues\nalongside prevention, extinguishing and handling of forest and land\nfires across various parts of Riau.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery fire incident found to have indications of a criminal offence\nwill be investigated thoroughly. Investigators trace the source of the\nfire, the cause of the blaze and the parties responsible. If sufficient\nevidence is found and the criminal elements are met, we will certainly\nprocess the case according to legal provisions,\u201d Ade said in a statement\non Monday (7\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n
According to data from the Special Crimes Investigation Directorate\nof Riau Regional Police, 26 cases are still under investigation, two\ncases have P19 status, and 17 cases have completed stage II or have been\ntransferred to public prosecutors.<\/p>\n
Pelalawan, Indragiri Hilir and Bengkalis are the regions with the\nhighest number of cases, with eight cases each. Pelalawan recorded nine\nsuspects with a burnt area of 2,502.6 hectares, while Bengkalis has nine\nsuspects with a burnt area of 230.5 hectares.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Indragiri Hilir is handling eight cases with eight\nsuspects and a burnt area of 22.5 hectares.<\/p>\n
Cases have also been recorded in Siak, with four cases and five\nsuspects. Of that number, three cases are still under investigation and\none case has completed stage II, with the burnt area linked to the cases\nreaching 48.39 hectares.<\/p>\n
Kampar Police are handling four cases with four suspects. Rokan Hilir\nand Indragiri Hulu are each handling three cases with three suspects,\nwhilst Kepulauan Meranti and Pekanbaru are each handling two cases.<\/p>\n
Dumai and Rokan Hulu have each recorded one case. The Special Crimes\nInvestigation Directorate of Riau Regional Police is also directly\nhandling one case with two suspects.<\/p>\n
Ade said law enforcement is not measured solely by the number of\ncases or suspects. Investigators must ensure every case has strong,\naccountable evidence for the legal process.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we ensure is that every case is handled professionally.\nInvestigators must be able to prove the cause of the fire, the actions\nof the perpetrators and their legal responsibility,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Law enforcement runs alongside prevention efforts through patrols,\nearly detection, awareness campaigns and communicating the prohibition\non burning land to communities in high-risk areas.<\/p>\n
Riau Regional Police have also reminded the public not to open or\nclear land by burning, especially in peat areas. Fire can spread and\nbecome difficult to control, potentially causing impacts on the\nenvironment, public health and community activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is why we continue to remind the public not to open or clear\nland by burning.
