41 concessionaires may lose logging rights<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Forty one of 108 concessionaires which operate
\nindustrial forests under a transmigration scheme (HTI-Trans) will
\nlikely lose their annual logging rights.<\/p>\n
\"If they do not operate industrial forests under the
\ntransmigration scheme, we will not give them annual logging
\nrights next April,\" Minister of Forestry Djamaloedin
\nSoeryohadikoesoemo told journalists after presenting awards to
\nsuccessful concessionaires here yesterday.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Director General of Forest Concession Waskito
\nSuryodibroto said the Ministry of Forestry has so far awarded
\nlogging rights to 67 HTI-Trans concessionaires. The concession
\ngiven for each concessionaire ranges from 4,000 hectares to 6,000
\nhectares.<\/p>\n
According to the minister, the HTI-Trans concessionaires are
\nrequired to allocate 50 percent of jobs in their areas for local
\npeople and the other 50 percent for transmigrants.<\/p>\n
To deal with the problem of locations for HTI-Trans program,
\nthe minister said he has provided concessionaires with conversion
\nforests. However, the ownership of the lands should be converted
\nto the people, not to those working in the concessionaires.<\/p>\n
Djamaloedin noted that for this fiscal year he has allocated
\nRp 19 billion (US$8 million) for HTI-Trans programs. \"The
\nprograms must be successful,\" the minister stated.<\/p>\n
He said he will invite the directors of related state
\ncompanies responsible for the HTI-Trans programs to what he
\ncalled a \"business lunch.\"<\/p>\n
\"This business lunch is to smoothen communication because if
\nit is done by correspondence it needs longer time,\" Djamaloedin
