40 prostitutes detained<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): City police detained over 40 suspected
\nprostitutes on Monday, following the arrest of seven alleged drug
\ndealers at a boardinghouse at Jl. Mangga Besar No. 13 in West
\nJakarta on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The suspected prostitutes were sharing the boardinghouse
\noccupied by the suspected drug dealers, city police chief of
\ndetectives Sr. Comr. Adang Rochana said.<\/p>\n
"Police received information from the public that drug
\ntransactions and drug parties were often held at the house,"
\nAdang said on Monday.<\/p>\n
Adang said his officers raided the building and arrested at
\nleast seven suspected drug dealers, both male and female, aged
\nbetween 20 and 45.<\/p>\n
Police seized hundreds of ecstasy pills, at least 100 grams of
\nshabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine) and over 100 Viagra pills
\nas evidence from the boardinghouse.<\/p>\n
"We also found over 40 girls, whom we have seen soliciting
\ncustomers outside the Stadium discotheque, staying at the
\nboardinghouse. We have detained them for further questioning."<\/p>\n
Adang said the women's pimps managed to escape the arrest.<\/p>\n
A police officer who requested anonymity said on Monday that
\ndetectives usually worked out a deal with the pimps, better known
\nas "madams".<\/p>\n
"They allow the madams to walk away after they pay good money
\nbut the girls normally can't afford to because the madams take
\nall their earnings and give them only a small commission for
\ntheir work," the officer said.<\/p>\n
When asked how much a prostitute charged, the officer said one
\ngirl, who was beautiful and in her twenties, answered: "Only Rp
\n100,000 (US$8.80) per hour, and that's cheap." (ylt)<\/p>",
