3rd alleged Tommy accomplice stands trial in murder case<\/p>\n

Another accomplice of Hutomo \"Tommy\" Mandala Putra, Dody
\nHarjito, was yesterday indicted for the murder of Supreme Court
\nJustice Syafiuddin Kartasasmita last July.<\/p>\n
During the hearing in the South Jakarta District Court, Dody,
\n39, looked nervous and kept his eyes fixed on the floor as
\nprosecutor Ismanto read the indictment against him.<\/p>\n
He was charged with premeditated murder as well as protecting
\na criminal in order to escape from the police.<\/p>\n
According to the indictment, Dody was involved in assisting
\nTommy and R. Maulawarman, alias Molla, in planning to shoot
\nSyafiuddin.<\/p>\n
Molla, along with defendant Noval Hadad, is currently being
\ntried at the Central Jakarta District Court for his alleged role
\nin the murder of Syafiuddin. Tommy, the favorite son of former
\npresident Soeharto, is yet to be named a suspect.<\/p>\n
During yesterday's hearing Dody refused to use his right to
\npresent a defense, saying that \"it (the indictment) is clear
\nenough\".<\/p>\n
Dody, who has known Tommy since 1976, started working for him
\nin March last year following a meeting arranged by Dedy Sutaedi
\nYusuf. Sutaedi is currently being tried for allegedly forging
\nfake documents for Tommy.<\/p>\n
\"The defendant had helped Tommy Soeharto getting a rented
\nhouse on Jl. Alam Segar III No 23, Pondok Indah and for
\ncontacting a hired man to carry out the murder plan,\" Ismanto
\ntold presiding Judge Tusana Jafri.<\/p>\n
According to the prosecutor, the defendant and Dedy had even
\nsurveyed Syafiuddin's home on Jl. Cipayung, Kampung Rambutan,
\nEast Jakarta on June 2001.<\/p>\n
At first, Tommy ordered Dody to drive him by motorbike to the
\nhome because he wanted to shoot Syafiuddin himself. However, Dody
\nrejected the suggestion and recommended Tommy hire a person,
\nMolla, to carry out the plan.<\/p>\n
Syafiuddin was shot on July 26, 2001 while he was driving his
\ncar to work. He had recently sentenced Tommy to 18 months jail
\nfor corruption.<\/p>\n
The hearing will resume in two weeks with three witnesses to
\nbe presented for the prosecution.<\/p>",
