        "content": "<p>JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Deputy Chairman of DPR Commission X, Lalu\nHadrian Irfani, has called on the government to immediately conduct a\nthorough evaluation of the implementation of science learning practices\nin schools, following the incident involving an explosion of a homemade\n3D-based rifle that killed a student in Siak Regency, Riau.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis incident serves as a serious reminder that learning activities,\nparticularly those involving experiments or engineering projects, must\nprioritise safety as the utmost concern,\u201d Lalu Hadrian stated when\ncontacted on Thursday (9\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI urge the Ministry of Education to promptly carry out a\ncomprehensive evaluation of project-based learning practices in schools,\nincluding the formulation of national guidelines on student experiment\nsafety,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the incident reveals gaps in supervision, risk\nassessment, and safety procedures within educational units.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPotentially hazardous practical activities should undergo a curation\nprocess, teacher supervision, and rigorous feasibility testing before\nbeing demonstrated by students,\u201d Lalu Hadrian said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdditionally, it is important to enhance teachers\u2019 capacity in risk\nmanagement and ensure adequate supervision in every practical activity,\u201d\nhe concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Previously reported, the fatal incident occurred at the Islamic\nCenter Junior High School (SMP) in Siak Regency, Riau, on Wednesday\n(8\/4\/2026), around 10:30 WIB.<\/p>\n<p>A ninth-grade student with initials MA (15) died due to the explosion\nof a 3D-printed rifle he brought to the practical. The Head of Criminal\nInvestigation Unit (Kasatreskrim) of Siak Police, AKP Raja Kosmos\nParmulais, confirmed the incident when contacted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe incident happened during a science practical exam on the school\nfield,\u201d Kosmos told Kompas.com via WhatsApp message on Wednesday\nevening.<\/p>\n<p>Kosmos explained that the victim, along with other students, was\nconducting a science practical exam.<\/p>\n<p>The students were divided into five groups, each consisting of nine\npeople. Each group demonstrated their science project outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>The victim\u2019s group was demonstrating a homemade 3D-printed rifle.\nWhen it was the victim\u2019s group\u2019s turn to test the project, the other\ngroups were instructed to move away.<\/p>\n<p>The victim then began testing the homemade 3D-printed rifle.<\/p>",
