The 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress is considered an important\nmomentum to formulate the Muslim community\u2019s response to various\nnational challenges and developments in the Islamic world.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian Islamic Da\u2019wah Institute views the highest\nconsultative forum of NU, taking place from 27 to 31 August 2026 at the\nBahrul Ulum Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School in Jombang, East Java,\nas being expected to contribute to strengthening religious and national\nlife.<\/p>\n
The General Chairman of the Indonesian Islamic Da\u2019wah Institute, Dody\nTaufiq Wijaya, said the challenges facing Muslims today are increasingly\ncomplex because religious issues are intertwined with developments in\ntechnology, economy, politics, environment, education, and social\nchange.<\/p>\n
\u201cMuslims need a shared agenda that does not stop at internal\norganisational matters,\u201d he said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday\n(27\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
He stated that the challenges faced by the ummah today are\ncross-sectoral in nature. Therefore, the results of the NU Congress are\nhighly anticipated, as a solution to national problems, while\nstrengthening Islam\u2019s contribution to the nation and civilisation.<\/p>\n
According to Dody, there are at least several strategic issues that\nneed to be the shared concern of Islamic organisations in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
First, social polarisation and the strengthening of identity\npolitics. Dody assessed that differences in political choices are still\noften carried over into social and religious spaces. If not managed\nproperly, these differences can erode Islamic brotherhood and national\nbrotherhood.<\/p>\n
\u201cDifferences in political choices are part of democracy. What must be\nmaintained is that these differences do not turn into social hostility.\nIslam has a tradition of deliberation and etiquette in dealing with\ndifferences,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The solution, according to Dody, is for Islamic mass organisations to\nstrengthen national education, political literacy, and a culture of\ndialogue. Religious scholars and leaders also need to be calming figures\nwhen society faces political contestation.<\/p>\n
Second, the strong flow of digital information and the development of\nartificial intelligence.
