35 Thai fishermen deported from Aceh<\/p>\n
INDONESIA: Local immigration authorities have deported 35 Thai
\nfishermen to their country after being detained at the Singkil
\ncorrectional facility in Aceh, since August for poaching in
\nIndonesian waters, an official said on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The Thai fishermen left Aceh Singkil district on Friday in
\nthree minivans, bound for the Belawan port in North Sumatra from
\nwhere they went straight to Thailand aboard a ship, head of the
\ncorrectional facility, T. Hasnur Abidin, said as quoted by
\nAntara.<\/p>\n
The 35 fishermen were crew members of three Thai fishing boats
\ncaught by the Marine Security Coordinating Board (Bakor Kamla) of
\nAceh Singkil for poaching fish in Indonesian waters, he said.<\/p>\n
They were deported after being found innocent in the case, he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, six other Thai fishermen, consisting of three
\ncaptains and three machine cabin chiefs, are being detained at
\nthe correctional facility on charges of poaching fish in
\nIndonesian waters.<\/p>\n
Earlier, deputy head of the Aceh Singkil district court, M.
\nSabir, said Indonesian Navy investigators are in the process of
\ninterrogating the six Thai fishermen as suspects in the case. --JP<\/p>",
