300 homes demolished<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Bogor authorities have demolished 300 houses
\nbuilt without permits on a 26-hectare plot belonging to the
\nMinistry of Health, despite residents protest.<\/p>\n
Antara reported Saturday that a resident put a baby in front
\nof a bulldozer in efforts to stop the demolition carried out by
\nthe Operasi Wibawa Praja team.<\/p>\n
Fauzi Si'in, the demolition team leader, said that the
\ndemolition was the final step after three written warnings had
\nbeen ignored by the squatters.<\/p>\n
Many house owners said they had the right to use the land they
\nbought from a foundation, whose office was located on Jl.
\nPajajaran, Bogor. \"We spent Rp 500,000 for each 500-square meter
\nplot,\" a resident said.<\/p>\n
The squatters admitted, however, that they did not have any
\nlegal ownership documents. The foundation had broken its promise
\nin arranging documents for them, they said.<\/p>\n
The demolition started at 4:00 a.m. and ended at noon when all
\nbuildings were leveled to the ground. (sur)<\/p>",
