        "content": "<p>A cliff approximately 30 metres high in Cilibur Village, Paguyangan\nDistrict, Brebes Regency, Central Java, collapsed early Sunday (8 March)\nat around 01.00 WIB (Western Indonesian Time).<\/p>\n<p>The incident, believed to have been triggered by heavy rainfall in\nthe southern Brebes region, resulted in a school building situated at\nthe cliff\u2019s edge being engulfed and lost.<\/p>\n<p>The event reportedly began when heavy rainfall caused water overflow\nin the Kali Longkrang river. The river\u2019s surge then eroded the northern\ncliff face where the school building and road were located.<\/p>\n<p>The erosion subsequently triggered a landslide measuring 20 metres in\nlength and 30 metres in height.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe incident occurred Sunday as a result of heavy rain in southern\nBrebes. Flood currents from the river eroded the soil where the school\nstood and damaged the road,\u201d said Brebes Public Works Department Head\nDani Asmoro on Monday (9 March).<\/p>\n<p>Several hours later, a secondary landslide occurred at the same\nlocation.<\/p>\n<p>At 08.30 WIB, the secondary landslide damaged a retaining wall and\nthe bathroom building of SMP Muhammadiyah 03 Paguyangan.<\/p>\n<p>The bathroom building, measuring 3 metres wide and 6 metres long, was\ncarried away by the landslide and fell into a ravine.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a 3-metre-wide section of the Cilibur-Langkap road\nmeasuring 50 metres in length collapsed. The route is currently\ncompletely closed and impassable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe school\u2019s bathroom building and provincial road have been\ndamaged. The building was swept away by the landslide, as was the\nprovincial road section,\u201d Dani added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe immediately coordinated with all relevant agencies upon receiving\nthe initial report. Public safety and uninterrupted transportation\naccess are the local government\u2019s top priorities,\u201d said Brebes Regent\nParamitha Widya Kusuma.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have also coordinated with the governor, who has indicated he\nintends to send a team to assist with relocation efforts,\u201d she\nadded.<\/p>\n<p>She noted that remedial measures must be carefully formulated given\nthe high-risk field conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the damaged educational facility and the risk it faces from\nfurther landslides, the regent stressed that immediate action would be\ntaken. According to her, the government\u2019s focus extends beyond road\nrestoration to include the safety of educational facilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot ignore the threat posed to the school situated above the\ncliff. Every step we take must ensure the safety of all residents,\nespecially the children studying there,\u201d she said.<\/p>",
