3 men wounded in taxi robberies<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Three people were injured and Rp 34 million in
\ncash stolen in separate armed robberies on Monday and Tuesday,
\npolice said.<\/p>\n
Jakarta Police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang said one of the
\nincidents took place on Tuesday in Cipinang Muara, East Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The victims, Mahadi Hamid, 53, and Sugiyo, 40, were getting
\nout of a President Taxi after withdrawing Rp 34 million from a
\nnearby bank to pay the salaries of their high school employees,
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
\"Two unidentified men on a motorbike attacked them, wounding
\nMahadi's right hand and striking Sugiyo on the head, before
\nmaking off with the money,\" Aritonang said.<\/p>\n
The other robbery occurred on Monday on Jl. Sumbawa, Menteng,
\nCentral Jakarta, he said.<\/p>\n
Police arrested the alleged robber, identified as Agus
\nSetiawan, 22, after he was beaten by an angry mob at the scene of
\nthe crime.<\/p>\n
\"He hailed an Express Taxi and attempted to rob the driver,
\nKarto Mulyono, 65, after stabbing him three times with a
\nbayonet,\" Aritonang said.<\/p>\n
Aritonang added that a third robbery, in which a con man
\nrelieved a victim of Rp 5 million after first hypnotizing her,
\ntook place on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The victim, identified as Patriyani, 32, was put into a trance
\nby a dandy man as she waited for a taxi at a bus stop on Jl.
\nGajah Mada, West Jakarta. (edt)<\/p>",
