The Regent of East Aceh reported that 3,005 temporary shelters (huntara) for residents affected by hydrometeorological disasters in late November 2025 have been occupied, with 2,346 units built on residents' original land and 659 communal shelters distributed across 18 sub-districts. An additional 152 temporary shelter units remain under construction, with the local government and the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) aiming to complete all accommodation before the Eid al-Fitr holiday in 1447 Hijriah, despite challenges including remote locations and material supply constraints.

Banda Aceh — The Regent of East Aceh, Iskandar Usman Al-Farlaky,
stated that 3,005 temporary shelters (huntara) for residents affected by
hydrometeorological disasters in the district have been occupied.

“To date, 3,005 temporary shelter units have been occupied by
residents affected by the hydrometeorological disaster that occurred in
late November 2025,” he said when contacted from Banda Aceh on
Wednesday.

He explained that of the 3,005 temporary shelters, 2,346 units are
in-situ shelters built on the original land of disaster-affected
residents. Additionally, 659 units are communal shelters, which are
temporary accommodations centralised in a particular location within one
area.

He noted that thousands of occupied temporary shelters are
distributed across 18 sub-districts in East Aceh Regency, including
Madat, Pante Bidari, West Peureulak, Simpang Ulim, and Banda Alam.

“In addition to the temporary shelters already occupied, 138 in-situ
shelter units and 14 communal shelter units are still under
construction,” said Iskandar Usman Al-Farlaky.

Of the 138 in-situ shelters under construction, he said, 112 units
are more than 50 per cent complete, whilst 26 units are below 50 per
cent progress.

He stated that regarding the communal shelter construction, of the 14
units under development, nine units are more than 50 per cent complete,
whilst five units are less than 50 per cent complete.

He cited several obstacles in the temporary shelter construction,
including remote locations such as Serbajadi, Pante Bidari, and Simpang
Jernih. These distant locations have complicated the transportation of
shelter materials.

In addition, limited material availability has also become an
obstacle in constructing accommodation for disaster victims.

“Despite the challenges, the East Aceh Regency Government, together
with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), continues to
accelerate shelter construction. We are working to ensure that the
temporary shelters can be occupied before Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah,”
said Iskandar Usman Al-Farlaky.
",
