29 aircraft join Dirgantara Rally<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Twenty-nine single- and double-engine airplanes
\nwill take to the skies from Jakarta to Lombok during the
\nDirgantara Rally 96 aero-safari which starts this weekend.<\/p>\n
Indonesia's CN-235 aircraft will join the AS-202 Bravo, T-34,
\nPiper Cherokee, Husky, Dakota and some helicopters in the three-
\nday across-the-sky parade.<\/p>\n
\"Malaysia and Singapore will take part in the rally,\" Vice
\nMarshall Irawan Saleh, National Air Defense commander and the
\nrally's coordinator, said yesterday.<\/p>\n
The National Air Force's top brass, civilians and athletes
\nfrom the Indonesian Aerosport Federation are among the
\nparticipants.<\/p>\n
It will be the second festival of its kind in Indonesia after
\nthe initial event 10 years ago. Irawan said that the second aero-
\nsafari is being held to celebrate the National Air Force's golden
\nanniversary.<\/p>\n
The rally, which will cover more than 1,500 kilometers, will
\nbe divided into three stages.<\/p>\n
After the flag-off at Halim Perdanakusuma air base in East
\nJakarta on Saturday, participants will fly east to Cirebon,
\nSemarang, Purwokerto and Surakarta before landing in Yogyakarta.<\/p>\n
All planes will continue east to Madiun, Malang, Denpasar and
\nLombok on the second day. The final stage will be a U-turn
\npassage from Lombok to Surabaya, Semarang and Cirebon before
\ntouching down at Halim Perdanakusuma. (yan)<\/p>",
