$25,000 donated to orphans<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): PT Lucent Technologies Indonesia, a
\ncommunications systems and technology supplier, on Saturday
\ncontributed US$25,000 to five local social organizations
\ndedicated to providing education to children from orphanages and
\nimpoverished families.<\/p>\n
In a statement made available to The Jakarta Post, the
\ncompany, the factory of which is located in Cibitung, West Java,
\nsaid that the organizations receiving grants were Dian Mitra
\nFoundation, One More Chance Foundation, Bintang Pancasila
\nFoundation, Nusantara Foundation and Hanifiyyah Orphanage.<\/p>\n
In addition to the grants, the company also donated a $1,000
\nregistration fee for a student of the Bandung Institute of
\nTechnology who will represent Indonesia at the International
\nYoung Scientist Forum in England in July.<\/p>\n
\"Caring for the communities in which we live and work is a key
\nelement of Lucent's culture throughout the world,\" the firm's
\npresident Michael H. Stoll said.<\/p>\n
The grants, he said, would help 500 children currently under
\nthe care of the five organizations, which provide them with
\neducation and food.<\/p>\n
The company supported the Hanafiyyah Orphanage last year
\nduring a volunteer program it organized by spending time with 150
\norphans, providing them with food, stationery, books, clothes and
\nrepairing the orphanage's premises.<\/p>\n
Lucent's plant in Cibitung installed some two million
\ntelephone lines for state-owned telecommunications operator PT
\nTelkom and state satellite operator PT Indosat from 1991 to 1997.
