25 people arrested for illegal logging<\/p>\n
JAMBI, Jambi: The Jambi provincial police have named 25 people as
\nsuspects for their alleged involvement in illegal logging in the
\nprovince. They were arrested during a number of police operations
\nin three regencies of Jambi this month, said Jambi Provincial
\nPolice spokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Djoko Turrochman on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Five out of the 25 suspects are believed to have been the main
\nperpetrators while the remaining 20 played various subsidiary
\nroles, including working as truck drivers, boat captains and
\nporters. During the operations, the police confiscated 186.8
\ncubic meters of wood and 1,933 logs. They also seized 12 trucks,
\ntwo tug boats and one barge from the suspects.<\/p>\n
They have been charged with violating the 1999 Forestry Law,
\nwhich carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in jail. -- JP<\/p>",
