24 babies died of malnutrition<\/p>\n
SEMARANG: 24 babies under the age of five have died of
\nmalnutrition in the first eight months of this year, while 441
\nothers have been hospitalized for the same reason, said head of
\nthe Health Agency of Purbalingga regency Diyah Retnani Basuki.<\/p>\n
She said malnutrition was rampant in the regency, especially
\nin the Rembang, Karangmoncol, Karangtengah and Kutawala districts
\nwith mortality rates highest in impoverished villages.<\/p>\n
\"Malnutrition is due to the people's inability to fulfill
\ntheir basic nutritional needs. These babies can be discharged
\nfrom hospital but their problems will resume once they return to
\ntheir poor homes,\" she said.<\/p>\n
The regency administration has distributed aid, allocated in
\nthe state and city budget, and also from private companies, to
\nalleviate malnutrition. The aid was channeled directly to the
\nbabies, along with the initial working capital for poor parents
