The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu RI) has registered\n22 Indonesian citizens (WNI) evacuated from Iran who have returned to\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
The group arrived on Tuesday afternoon through a flight operated by\nTurkish Airlines via Baku, Azerbaijan, landing at Jakarta\u2019s\nSoekarno-Hatta International Airport (Soetta) in Tangerang, Banten.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian citizens returned after undergoing a lengthy\nevacuation process carried out by the Indonesian Government. These 22\nWNI were part of the first wave of the evacuation operation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis afternoon, 22 WNI have returned in the first wave. Tomorrow, 10\nmore will depart from Iran,\u201d Foreign Minister Sugiono stated at Soetta\nAirport.<\/p>\n
He explained that the evacuation process will continue into a second\nwave with 36 additional WNI who have registered for repatriation to\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe at the Foreign Ministry are conducting very close coordination\nwith our representatives in that country,\u201d Sugiono said.<\/p>\n
According to him, the government continues to monitor the condition\nof Indonesian citizens through embassies and representations located in\nvarious conflict zones.<\/p>\n
However, the government also expects all WNI wishing to be\nrepatriated, particularly from Tehran, Iran, to inform the embassy of\ntheir situation.<\/p>\n
\u201cDay by day, hour by hour, we assess the situation and we endeavour\nto encourage WNI to be repatriated,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Sugiono acknowledged that during the evacuation phase, the Foreign\nMinistry has prioritised safety and careful calculation, including\nsecurity situation factors, rules of each national authority and\nlogistics.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also consider regulations issued by local authorities, logistics,\nevacuation routes, which countries have open airspace and which have\nclosed airspace, which routes must be taken, and so forth,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
The Foreign Minister revealed the difficulty of evacuating Indonesian\ncitizens from Iran due to airspace closures. He also noted that\nIndonesia is intensifying dialogue with Iranian authorities to ensure\nthe safety of two Pertamina tanker ships detained in the Strait of\nHormuz.<\/p>\n
Beyond encouraging all parties to exercise restraint, Indonesia is\nalso urging that tensions be reduced immediately and that negotiations\nproceed through dialogue.<\/p>\n
