        "content": "<p>20,000 to cancel haj pilgrimage<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): About 20,000 prospective pilgrims have<br>\nthreatened to cancel their haj pilgrimage if the municipality<br>\ndoes not scrap its numerical system for grouping pilgrims.<\/p>\n<p>Under a regulation issued for next year's haj, pilgrims are to<br>\nbe grouped according to lists provided by banks and not on family<br>\nor affinity connections.<\/p>\n<p>The chairman of the Communication Forum of Instructors and<br>\nConsultants for Haj Pilgrims, Anwar Sanusi, said yesterday that<br>\n20,000 prospective pilgrims would cancel their pilgrimage<br>\nparticipation if the municipality does not scrap the regulation.<\/p>\n<p>\"The issuance of the new regulation by the city's religious<br>\naffairs office has created confusion among Moslems,\" he told<br>\nreporters after visiting the city council's United Development<br>\nParty faction.<\/p>\n<p>About 2,000 haj instructors from five mayoralties staged a<br>\nrally in front of the religious affairs office in East Jakarta<br>\nTuesday to protest the new regulation.<\/p>\n<p>Anwar said that the system would cause spouses to be separated<br>\nduring the pilgrimage. The instructors would also be separated<br>\nfrom their charges, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Anwar said that the total number of prospective pilgrims in<br>\nJakarta was 23,000. (ind)<\/p>",
