        "content": "<p>20,000 radio transmitters illegal<\/p>\n<p>SURABAYA, East Java: About 20,000 radio transmitters operate<br>\nwithout an official permit, and there are fears that the<br>\nequipment may be used for subversive purposes if it goes<br>\nunchecked.<\/p>\n<p>The East Java chapter of the Association of Indonesian Amateur<br>\nRadio Stations (Orari) urged the authorities yesterday to crack<br>\ndown on the illegal radio transmitters.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for the local Orari, Eddy Santoso, said some<br>\npeople have used their radio transmitters to send messages<br>\nincluding \"dirty\" words and even messages critical of the<br>\ngovernment.<\/p>\n<p>\"Radio parts are on sale everywhere and people who have the<br>\nknow-how can easily assemble (a transmitter),\" Eddy told Antara.<br>\nHe added the Indonesian law on private radio does not regulate<br>\nthe sale of radio parts.<\/p>\n<p>The illegal use of radio transmitters has disrupted the<br>\nreception of television broadcasts, he said.
