200 more people netted in terminal raids<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Police netted 200 more people in their latest
\nraids against suspected drug dealers and other criminals at the
\ncity's major bus terminals late Sunday.<\/p>\n
A day earlier, city police apprehended a total of 186 people
\nfrom the same locations in a similar operation. The raids were
\nconducted following last Wednesday's severe clashes at the
\nKampung Rambutan intercity bus terminal in East Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Jakarta Police spokesman Lt. Col. Zainuri Lubis announced on
\nMonday that in the latest raid 200 people were netted separately
\nby teams comprising 500 officers at Kampung Rambutan, Pulogadung
\nand Cililitan bus terminals.<\/p>\n
\"The people are currently detained at nearby police stations
\nand dossiers are being prepared,\" officer Lubis said.<\/p>\n
\"Out of the 200 people arrested, 168 were arrested for not
\ncarrying their identification cards during the raids,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"The remaining 32 were apprehended for various violations,
\nincluding seven women believed to be prostitutes offering their
\nservices at the terminals,\" he added.<\/p>\n
\"Eight of them were caught carrying sharp weapons without
\nbeing able to give any 'reasonable' explanation. Six others were
\narrested for possession of marijuana and Nipam and Rohipnol pills
\nand the remaining 11 for gambling,\" Lubis said.<\/p>\n
In comparison, 10 of the 186 people netted during Saturday's
\nraids were apprehended carrying sharp weapons or marijuana. The
\nrest were detained after failing to show their identification
\ncards.<\/p>\n
According to Lubis, police will uphold existing laws by
\npreparing dossiers on all detainees in order to bring them to
\ntrial.<\/p>\n
\"We will charge them in accordance with their violation,\" he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Separately, Jakarta Police chief Maj. Gen. Noegroho Djajoesman
\nordered his subordinates to shoot any criminals who resisted
\narrest or put officers' safety in danger.<\/p>\n
\"Either in routine raids or special operations, I've told my
\nsubordinates to shoot criminals on sight if they are putting the
\nlives of people or officers in danger,\" he announced on Monday.<\/p>\n
However, Noegroho added that any shooting must follow standard
\npolice procedure: two warning shots followed by one aimed at the
