        "content": "<p>20 bogus degree peddlers reported<\/p>\n<p>KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: The Ministry of National<br>\nEducation has reported the management of 20 illegal postgraduate<br>\nand doctorate programs to the police, a senior government<br>\nofficial said on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Director general for higher education Satrio Sumantri<br>\nBrojonegoro said the education programs violated the law as they<br>\nhad no license from the ministry and caused losses to the general<br>\npublic.<\/p>\n<p>\"They usually offer people masters degrees or doctorates<br>\nwithout taking any lectures but only paying money,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>He was reluctant to mention the names of any illegal education<br>\nprograms, but they mainly carried the names of famous<br>\nuniversities from overseas.<\/p>\n<p>Kendari regent Kaharuddin was reportedly made an offer by one<br>\nillegal education firm of a U.S. masters degree, while a regency<br>\nadministration employee in Java was dismissed for misusing his<br>\nillegal degree to obtain a better post.- Antara<\/p>",
