2 foreigners arrested for possible links with terrorists<\/p>\n

Two Bangladeshi men with suspected links to international
\nterrorist networks were arrested in Medan, North Sumatra on
\nThursday night, a police official said on Friday.<\/p>\n
The two foreigners, identified as Huseiri alias Iqbal, 27, and
\nM. Tana Chouduri, 30, were nabbed from a hotel on Jl.
\nSisingamangaraja in Medan, according to North Sumatra Police
\nspokesman Adj. Sr. Comr. Amrin Karim.<\/p>\n
\"The two suspects entered Medan without proper immigration
\ndocuments. Currently, the police are still investigating their
\npossible involvement with international terrorist networks,\"
\nAmrin told The Jakarta Post Friday night.<\/p>\n
But the two suspects, according to Amrin, insisted that they
\nwere not part of any terror group.<\/p>\n
Amrin said the police confiscated from the two men, Indonesian
\nidentity cards and passports, 11 cellular phone cards, a bank
\naccount book with a balance of Rp 52 million (US$5,700) and gold
\njewelry.<\/p>\n
He said the police had arrested them after receiving
\ncomplaints from cell phone operator PT Telkomsel, and from two
\nwomen, Nurhayati and Yustina, who claimed to have been cheated by
\nthe two foreigners.<\/p>\n
According to Amrin, the two suspects entered Medan together
\nwith Nurhayati from Malaysia last month. Nurhayati herself
\ninitially worked in Malaysia.<\/p>\n
Nurhayati was quoted by Amrin as saying that she agreed to
\nleave Malaysia, after working there for seven months, and came
\nback to Medan as Huseiri alias Iqbal promised to marry her.<\/p>\n
Arriving in Medan, the two, with the help of Nuryahati's
\nfamily, processed Indonesian identity cards so that they could
\nmarry quickly. Then, they made family cards, with which they got
\na local cell phone number under Nuryahati's name.<\/p>\n
Tana Chouduri also purchased a Telkomsel phone number from
\nYustina.<\/p>\n
The two made calls to 24 countries, including Malaysia,
\nAfghanistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh and India. They
\nalso made calls to conflict areas such as Aceh and Poso in
\nCentral Sulawesi.<\/p>\n
These calls, made in only 10 days, cost a total Rp 500 million
\n(US$55,000). But when Telkomsel billed Nuryahati and Yustina, the
\ntwo claimed that they had not used the phones.<\/p>\n
According to Amrin, the two Bangladeshis told the police that
\nthey were Acehnese. But Amrin said they could not speak Acehnese
\nand only a little Indonesian.<\/p>\n
Amrin said the two claimed to have received a wire transfer of
\nsome Rp 180 million from a Pakistani named Hasan.<\/p>",
