A total of 2,087 Beneficiary Families (KPM) of the Family Hope\nProgramme (PKH) in Klaten, Central Java, have graduated, meaning they\nare now independent, empowered, and no longer reliant on social\nassistance (bansos). Deputy Minister of Social Affairs (Wamensos) Agus\nJabo Priyono stated that this graduation is tangible proof of\ncollaboration between various parties to break the chain of poverty.\n\u201cThis is evidence of how collaboration between the central government\nand regional governments, collaborating with private companies, working\ntogether to break the transmission of poverty,\u201d Agus Jabo said in a\nstatement on Tuesday. He made the remarks while attending the PKH KPM\ngraduation ceremony at Grha Bung Karno, Klaten, Central Java. \u201cIn\nKlaten, we have been able to graduate 2,087 Beneficiary Families who\npreviously received social assistance. They have been able to migrate,\nbecome empowered, and independent,\u201d he added before thousands of\ngraduates.<\/p>\n
Reflecting on the journey, Agus Jabo noted that President Prabowo\nSubianto, through Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 8 of 2025,\nhad mandated the Ministry of Social Affairs to actively engage in\npoverty alleviation. He stressed that social assistance is only\ntemporary, but empowerment is permanent. \u201cThe President does not want to\nstop at just providing social assistance. He wants all Indonesian people\nto be independent and empowered, hence these priority programmes were\ndesigned. He wants all Indonesian people to be able to smile. How can\nthey smile? They must be lifted out of the poverty line. We must\ncollaborate and fight as hard as we can as state apparatus to make our\npeople smile,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
Agus Jabo congratulated all KPM who have graduated and are no longer\ndependent on social assistance. He described the graduates as life\nteachers for their families and communities because they succeeded in\nrising from poverty. \u201cI want to congratulate the graduates of the harsh\nuniversity of life. You truly deserve this honour and graduation because\nyou are the teachers of life for your families and communities,\u201d he\nsaid. He also expressed gratitude to the Central Java Provincial\nGovernment, the Klaten Regency Government, and the PKH facilitators who\ncollaborated and worked together to improve community welfare.<\/p>\n
In his speech, Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi called the\ngraduated KPM pioneers. He said they have become motivators for other\nsocial assistance recipients to become empowered and escape the grip of\npoverty. \u201cPioneers are champions. Because you have graduated, it means\nyou can stand on your own two feet. There should be no more social\nassistance recipients for years on end,\u201d he said. Luthfi added that\ngraduation is not the end of the journey, but the beginning of a journey\ntowards success. \u201cToday is not the end of your graduation. It is the\nbeginning of success. I want you who graduate today to be able to tell\nyour children and grandchildren that you have been graduated, not\nnecessarily as a scholar, but you are a family hero because you can\nstand on your own two feet,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Klaten Regent Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo revealed that based on\n2025 data, the poverty rate in Klaten has decreased by 1.05 percent.\nThis achievement is the result of the hard work of all stakeholders in\nKlaten Regency. \u201cBut because our starting point was still in double\ndigits, from 12 percent, it has now fallen to 11 percent. Currently,\nthere are still approximately 129,680 people classified as\nunderprivileged or poor, spread across 26 sub-districts, 391 villages,\nand 10 urban wards,\u201d he explained. He hopes that today\u2019s graduation will\nspark enthusiasm and optimism among other KPMs so they do not solely\nrely on social assistance for their daily needs. \u201cThat life is not just\nabout receiving assistance, but how starting from receiving assistance,\na spirit emerges to obtain a better, more decent life so that they can\neventually graduate and, God willing, become more prosperous in the\nfuture,\u201d he hoped.
