Mothers living in big cities play an important role in raising
\nthe quality of their families especially in a multi-ethnic
\nmetropolis like Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\"Incidents that happen in cities, such as student brawls, are
\nproof that many families have not been well controlled,\" said
\nIchtijanto, chairman of the national committee of the Mother of
\nthe Year contest, at the City Hall.<\/p>\n
He said that mothers should not abandon their families to
\npursue careers because they are responsible for raising the
\nquality of their children and families.<\/p>\n
The triennial competition judges a woman's daily role as a
\nmother, a wife and a member of the society.<\/p>\n
Siti Sabtiyah was named the winner of the competition, with
\nUmi Kalsum as the runner-up and Atikah S. Krisnandi in third.
