19 foreigners washed ashore<\/p>\n
YOGYAKARTA: Nineteen foreigners were washed ashore on Glagah
\nbeach in Kulonprogo regency, 45 kilometers west of Yogyakarta,
\nSaturday, Antara reported yesterday.<\/p>\n
According to the news agency, the foreigners were allegedly
\nabandoned at sea when they tried to force their Indonesian crew
\nto sail to Australia's Christmas Island after hiring them for a
\npleasure cruise.<\/p>\n
The group consisted of 11 French citizens, three Italians, two
\nAfghans, one Belgian and one Algerian, all men, and one Swiss
\nwoman. They reportedly jumped ship when they realized the crew
\nhad abandoned them.<\/p>\n
None of the foreigners could produce their passports and
\ndemanded the police contact their respective embassies in Jakarta
\nbefore questioning them, a local police officer said.<\/p>\n
Chief detective of Yogyakarta police force, Lt. Col. Erwin
\nTobing, said five Indonesians were also washed ashore Saturday,
\nwith one of the ship's crew still missing. No other details were
