        "content": "<p>JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The demand for an 18-year prison sentence\nagainst former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology\n(Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Makarim in the alleged corruption case\nregarding the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops has become a\npublic focus.<\/p>\n<p>During the sentencing hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court on\nWednesday (13\/5\/2026), the public prosecutor (JPU) asserted that the\ncase was built based on evidence, including documents and electronic\nevidence, which allegedly showed Nadiem\u2019s direct involvement in the\nChromebook procurement project at the Ministry of Education and\nCulture.<\/p>\n<p>One of the points highlighted by the prosecutor was the statement \u201cGo\nahead with Chromebook,\u201d which allegedly appeared in the discussion of\nthe project.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutor also mentioned the alleged existence of a \u201cshadow\norganization\u201d within the ministry during the project.<\/p>\n<p>After the sentencing demand, amidst the public\u2019s reaction to the\nsentence, Nadiem is undergoing recovery after surgery.<\/p>\n<p>Two days after the surgery, Nadiem\u2019s lawyer, Dody Abdulkadir, stated\nthat his client\u2019s condition was improving, although he was still\nundergoing intensive care in the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>During the sentencing hearing, JPU Roy Riady affirmed that the\ncharges against Nadiem were based on evidence and facts presented during\nthe trial, not on assumptions or public opinion.<\/p>\n<p>Roy stated that the entire case was systematically constructed,\nstarting from the indictment, witness testimony, expert opinions, audit\ndocuments, to electronic evidence and results of mobile phone\nforensics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople can lie, but electronic evidence cannot lie,\u201d Roy said after\nthe trial.<\/p>\n<p>According to Roy, each legal fact must be supported by at least two\npieces of related evidence.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the evidence could be in the form of witness\ntestimony, documents, physical evidence, or expert opinions.<\/p>\n<p>In the indictment, the prosecutor also highlighted the alleged direct\ninvolvement of Nadiem in the use of the Chrome OS operating system in\nthe Chromebook procurement project within the Ministry of Education and\nCulture.<\/p>\n<p>Roy stated that there was evidence in the form of documents and\nwitness testimony regarding the direction of using Chromebooks in the\nproject.<\/p>",
