Deputy Home Affairs Minister (Wamendagri) Bima Arya Sugiarto has\nexplained that the government has not designated 18 August 2026 as a\npublic holiday or collective leave day for state civil apparatus\n(ASN).<\/p>\n
However, he said regional governments have been asked to provide\nconvenience for members of the public who still wish to hold people\u2019s\nparties in the context of commemorating Indonesia\u2019s 81st Independence\nDay on 18 August 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the State Secretariat (Kementerian Sekretariat Negara) it was\nconveyed that all regions are asked to provide convenience if there are\nresidents who wish to hold people\u2019s parties. So the schedule is somewhat\nflexible,\u201d Bima said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on\nMonday.<\/p>\n
Bima stressed that the policy does not mean establishing collective\nleave or a public holiday. The government is only asking government\noffices and related parties to provide space for the public to continue\nindependence celebration activities.<\/p>\n
According to Bima, the appeal is not only directed at government\nagencies. Private parties may also provide leeway for employees if they\nwish to hold or take part in Independence Day celebration\nactivities.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, it is just an appeal. Indeed, it means it is not mandatory, but\ncompany leaders and others, if they want to hold people\u2019s parties or\n17th August activities, can still do so tomorrow,\u201d Bima said.<\/p>\n
Bima emphasised that the provision of flexibility is carried out in\nthe context of maintaining public togetherness in celebrating\nindependence.<\/p>\n
