17 temas to attend world bridge tourney<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Seventeen countries representing their
\nrespective zones have confirmed their entry in the 5th World
\nJunior Bridge Team Championship to be held in Bali in July.<\/p>\n
The biennial event, under the full sanction of the World
\nBridge Federation, was inaugurated in Amsterdam in 1987. On that
\noccasion Indonesia managed to finish fourth.<\/p>\n
\"Being the host for the 1995 tournament, and judging from our
\narduous preparation and the national athletes' being groomed for
\nthe last six months, I think we have a better chance of winning
\nthe title,\" said the Indonesian Contract Bridge Association
\n(Gabsi) executive chairman Amran Zamzami on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Great Britain, Poland and Denmark are representing the
\nEuropean zone. The American zone representative will come from
\nCanada , America One and America Two. Australia and New Zealand
\nwill represent zone seven, Oceania.<\/p>\n
Other teams are expected to come from the Latin American zone
\n(two countries). The Far Eastern zone will be represented by the
\nPeople's Republic of China, Chinese Taipei and Japan. India and
\nPakistan will represent the Central Asian zone.<\/p>\n
Indonesia, as the host nation, is eligible for the tournament
\nwithout going through the qualifying round.<\/p>\n
The world junior championships are scheduled to take place at
\nthe Bali Kartika Plaza hotel between July 8 and July 17.<\/p>\n
A world invitational competition will also be held in
\nconjunction with the junior event. Nine strong bridge nations are
\nexpected to take part in the world invitation, including France,
\nthe Netherlands, Brazil, Argentina, the USA, Canada, China,
\nAustralia and the UK.<\/p>\n
Two national competitions, inter-club championships and inter-
\nuniversities tournaments will be held in conjunction with the
\nworld junior championships to commemorate Indonesia's golden
\nindependent anniversary.<\/p>\n
\"Our preparedness for the prestigious event has reached 80
\npercent and we are set to make it a success,\" Amran said at the
\nconclusion of the bridge coaching clinics for Jakarta's
\njournalists at the Lippocity housing complex in Bekasi. (rsl)<\/p>",
