166 servicemen keep city posts<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Of the 254 members of the Indonesian Military
\n(TNI) currently holding civilian posts in the city
\nadministration, 166 of them have decided to stay at their
\ncivilian jobs, an official said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Deputy Governor for Administrative Affairs Abdul Kahfi said
\nthe remaining 88 officers had decided to continue their careers
\nin the military.<\/p>\n
Kahfi explained that of the 166 officers, nine had long since
\nretired from their military duties and had decided to remain in
\ntheir civilian posts.<\/p>\n
\"I am one of those nine. The remaining 157 who are active
\nmilitary officers, have decided to join this group of nine,\"
\nKahfi said.<\/p>\n
TNI Commander Gen. Wiranto has ordered all TNI personnel,
\nincluding those posted in the city administration offices, to
\nchoose between their civilian and military posts.<\/p>\n
Kahfi explained that of the 157 active military officers, 100
\nare in the process of changing their military status to the
\nstatus of civil servant, while the remaining 57 officers will
\ntake early retirement from TNI to hold their civilian posts.<\/p>\n
When asked about the recent recommendation made by the Jakarta
\nMilitary Command on the return of 104 military officers holding
\ncivilian posts here to their military duties, Kahfi explained
\nthat there was a \"mistake\" on the part of the administration for
\nnot clarifying the matter further.<\/p>\n
\"We should have specified to reporters that the 104 were not
\nonly (military) officers holding civilian posts in Jakarta, but
\nalso in Bekasi and Tangerang. The administration should have
\nclarified this matter,\" Kahfi said.(ylt)<\/p>",
