16 Papuans receive entrepreneur training<\/p>\n
BANDUNG: Sixteen Papuans are attending a training in Sumedang,
\nWest Java, which is aimed at enhancing their management and
\nentrepreneurial skills, an official said on Monday.<\/p>\n
The two weeks training that starts on Monday is being held in
\na business incubator in Sumedang, said Stevi Thomas, a staffer
\nwith giant mining company PT Freeport Indonesia.<\/p>\n
The small scale businessmen were picked from various Papuan
\ntribes and from wide ranging professions such as contractors and
\nentrepreneurs in catering businesses.<\/p>\n
The training, which is funded by PT Freeport, is seen
\nnecessary as the businessmen have not been exposed to modern
\nmanagement, leading to poor capability in handling businesses.<\/p>\n
The company has granted management aid to dozens of Papuan
\nbusinessmen since 1991, including the 16. The management aid is
\npart of the company's community development program. The program
\nis being fostered by the company amid sharp criticism by non-
\ngovernmental organizations (NGOs) over the company's
