15 students injured in a brawl<\/p>\n

At least 15 people, mostly university students, were injured in a
\nbrawl on Jl. Diponegoro, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Seven cars were damaged in the incident and police rerouted
\ntraffic for the duration of the brawl.<\/p>\n
Eyewitnesses said that the brawl between students of the
\nChristian University of Indonesia (UKI) and those of the YAI
\nPersada Indonesia University, both located on the same street,
\nbroke out after a group of students of the nearby STM 04
\nvocational school attacked the UKI campus. Only about 30 students
\nwere inside the university at the time as most of their friends
\nhad gone to UKI's Cawang, East Jakarta, campus to celebrate its
\nanniversary.<\/p>\n
The motive behind the attack was not clear.<\/p>\n
Infuriated by the attack, the UKI students then chased the
\nassailants, who ran into the YAI campus. The clash between UKI
\nstudents and the assailants resulted in damage to a white sedan
\nbelonging to a YAI student.<\/p>\n
YAI students, who thought they were being attacked by UKI
\nstudents, fought back by pelting UKI students with stones and
\nbricks, which were easily obtainable as construction is under way
\non the YAI campus.<\/p>\n
The clash broke out at midday and lasted for more than an
\nhour. Two trucks packed with police personnel arrived to bring
\nthe situation under control. Police also rerouted traffic to
\navoid damage to private vehicles. They used sticks, shields and
\ntear gas to stop the brawl.<\/p>\n
Three UKI students injured in the clash were rushed to Cipto
\nMangunkusumo General Hospital. They were Jonatan Imanuel, Nico
\nand Jimmy Johan. Among the YAI students, 11 were injured and
\ntaken to St Carolus Hospital. They were Voltino, Reagen, Ricky,
\nIsni, Dutra, Alred, Edy, Eko Agus, Aditya Muramsyah, Andry
\nCandra, Budi. Also injured in the clash was a passerby named
\nSandi.<\/p>\n
Six cars parked on the street were also damaged in the brawl.<\/p>\n
Andry, who sustained head and elbow injuries from thrown
\nstones, said he was attending a meeting with new students when
\nthe brawl broke out.<\/p>\n
He left the meeting and joined in the brawl after being
\ninformed that his campus was being attacked by UKI students.<\/p>\n
"Unfortunately, I was injured in the incident," he told
\nreporters at the St Carolus emergency room.<\/p>\n
The traffic returned to normal at 3 p.m. but policemen
\nremained at the scene in fear of another clash as most of the
\nstudents stayed put on their campuses.<\/p>",
