Joint personnel from the Cikelet Police, the Military Sub-district\nCommand (Koramil), and the Garut Regency Fire Department battled a land\nfire in the oil palm plantation area belonging to PT Condong. The\nincident scorched at least 15 hectares of the company\u2019s Cultivation\nRights Title (HGU) land.<\/p>\n
The fire occurred specifically in the Afdeling Gataga Area, Cicalung\nDatar Kolasi Block, Tarisi Hamlet, Cigadog Village, Cikelet District,\nGarut Regency. Cikelet Police Chief, Iptu Aktas Komalsyah, confirmed\nthat his office received an initial report from the Head of the Afdeling\nGataga regarding the emergence of a hotspot at the location.<\/p>\n
\u201cBased on the testimony of witnesses, namely the Head of Afdeling\nGataga, Ridwan, along with PT Condong Garut\u2019s Public Relations officer,\nUu, the fire appeared suddenly from an unknown direction. The flames\nwere then fanned by strong winds, causing them to spread rapidly and\nburn an area of 15 hectares,\u201d said Iptu Aktas Komalsyah on Friday\n(24\/7).<\/p>\n
In the firefighting effort, three fire engines from the Garut Regency\nGovernment were deployed to the location, assisted by two fire engines\nbelonging to the company. The extinguishing process also involved TNI\npersonnel (Babinsa) and local residents who used manual tools to contain\nthe fire and prevent it from spreading to other land.<\/p>\n
Iptu Aktas added that although the fire has been successfully\nextinguished, the police are still conducting an intensive investigation\nto determine the exact cause of the fire. Officers are exploring various\npossibilities, ranging from human negligence to natural factors.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe police are investigating whether there is any indication of\nintentional burning, a cigarette butt, or natural factors such as\nfriction between dry reeds causing sparks,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
The company is currently still collecting data on the total material\nlosses incurred.
