        "content": "<p>142 monkeys die on Bali<\/p>\n<p>DENPASAR, Bali: The deaths of 142 monkeys in Sangeh, Alas<br>\nKedaton and Ubud forests, were caused by Streptococcus sp.<br>\nbacteria from the remains of pigs.<\/p>\n<p>The Antara news agency reported that the monkeys lived<br>\ndownstream along a river where a pig slaughterhouse dumps its<br>\nindustrial waste into the river.<\/p>\n<p>Pigs which drank water from the river were also reported to<br>\nhave suffered from the disease.<\/p>\n<p>As of yesterday, 76 monkeys in Sangeh, 48 in Alas Kedaton and<br>\n18 in Ubud had died because of the bacteria and 2,169 pigs out of<br>\nthe 7,145 which were known to have the bacteria, have also died.<\/p>\n<p>Head of Bali&apos;s husbandry office, Wayan Masudana, said the<br>\nplague was currently &quot;under control&quot; after the Surabaya Zoo<br>\nprovided medicine.
