        "content": "<p>Bandarlampung - A love scamming case carried out by inmates from\ninside the Class IIB Kotabumi Detention Centre has been uncovered by the\nLampung Provincial Police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis case was revealed through collaboration or joint investigation\nwith the Ministry of Immigration, allowing us to uncover the love\nscamming operation controlled from within the Kotabumi Detention\nCentre,\u201d stated Lampung Police Chief Inspector General Helfi Assegaf on\nMonday, 11 May 2026.<\/p>\n<p>He mentioned that in this case, at least 137 detainees in the\nfacility are suspected of being involved in the group-based love\nscamming criminal activity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe examined 145 inmates there (Kotabumi Detention Centre) and 137\nindividuals were indicated to be involved in this case,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the investigation results, the number of identified\nvictims reached more than 1,200, with 671 of them related to\nonline-based sexual exploitation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf that number, 249 victims are known to have transferred money to\nthe perpetrators. The victims come from various regions, including East\nJava and Lampung, with estimated total losses of Rp1.4 billion,\u201d he\nstated.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the modus operandi used by the perpetrators\ninvolved creating social media accounts with fake profiles resembling\nmembers of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) or Police to\ndeceive their victims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis activity has been carried out by the perpetrators since January\nto April. Evidence seized includes 156 mobile phones of various brands,\none bank savings book, daily police uniforms, police insignia, detective\npins, and clothing used to support the disguise operation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He emphasised that the Lampung Provincial Police will continue to\ninvestigate this case in depth and identify all further involved\nparties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurrently, the involved inmates have been transferred from the\nKotabumi Detention Centre to the Bandarlampung Detention Centre to\nfacilitate the ongoing investigation process,\u201d he added.<\/p>",
