Andreas Sugianto<br>\nsaid yesterday 13 people have fallen victim in the \"ninja\" scare<br>\nthat has gripped the town over the past week.<\/p>\n<p>He declined to specify how many of the victims were killed or<br>\ninjured but he said that four of them were members of the Armed<br>\nForces (ABRI).<\/p>\n<p>Dili has been gripped with fear at news that gangs of<br>\nunidentified masked men have been roaming the town streets at<br>\nnight, terrorizing pro-independence activists, burning houses and<br>\nvandalizing vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Military authorities have denied any connection with the so-<br>\ncalled \"ninjas\", saying that the vandalism is part of rivalry<br>\nbetween groups with opposing opinions on the integration of East<br>\nTimor into Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo said yesterday he has been<br>\noverwhelmed by complaints from residents about increasing numbers<br>\nof irregularities that they fear will lead to human right abuses<br>\nin the former Portuguese territory.
